Morning everyone!

Welcome to another edition of the Doctor’s Note, where we talk about what’s on our minds when it comes to your health.

This week, we’re talking about gift giving for the holidays. It’s after Thanksgiving, and we’re all thinking about what to get loved ones and friends.

Why don’t we give them something that pertains to their health?

I think for all of us, this year has served as a wake up call when it comes to our health. Staying lean, having a healthy immune system, exercising, getting good sleep, paying attention to your hormones, taking vitamins, and eating well have never been more important.

If you do these things you most likely won’t have to worry about COVID-19, or anything else for that matter.

Side Note: 80% of your immune system is located in your gut. Take care of your gut first!

Here are some of my gift recommendations pertaining to health.

Oura Ring

This is the best gift I’ve had in the last year. It tracks my sleep patterns, body temperature, heart rate variability, and how intense my exercise was. I wear it all the time.

Sleep Number Bed

I’ve had back problems for years now, and finding a great bed has been so important for that. My doctor dad used to always tell me to not be cheap with your shoes or with your bed, because you’re going to spend almost all of your life in one or the other. Sleep Number beds also give me biometrics on sleep. It’s really helped my back. It’s the best mattress I’ve had.

Vitamins

These are at least a few to get started with.

  • Vitamin D with K
  • Omega 3’s
  • Magnesium
  • Vitamin C
  • Zinc
  • Probiotics (Gluten Shield is my favorite, especially if you have digestive problems)
  • CoQ10
  • PQQ
  • NAD+
  • AMPK

Vitamins are at the base of the food pyramid to me. It’s not even food anymore, it’s your supplements.

Books

Give someone a great book on health to read. Here are a few of my favorites from the past year.

Concept 2 Rowing Machine

Rowing is intense exercise and I love it. If you row hard for 15 minutes you’re going to feel like your heart is going to explode. It’s important to learn proper technique. I like Concept 2 rowing machines.

Sunlighten Infrared Sauna

This infrared sauna has all of the spectrums: Mid, near, and far. It will detoxify you and help you feel so much better. Infrared saunas are great for your body.

Gym Membership

This is for the type of person who works out better in a gym setting. This is such a great gift. Also, find a workout partner. Not only will this help hold you accountable to working out, it’s also more fun.

Wine

I like Dry Farms because it’s very low sugar, organic, and it tastes good. You can order online. Red wine is actually pretty good for you in moderation.

Fitness Tracker

This can be an Apple Watch or a Garmin. It’s similar to an Oura Ring.

Instant Pot

This will change the way you cook, because it’s simple and fast

Hello Fresh

The fresh food delivery services are great. This is the year to start eating better. Services like Hello Fresh have organic meats and fresh vegetables. They also provide easy to follow healthy recipes.

Here are a few other ideas:

Running Shoes

Yoga Clothes

Yoga Membership

Performance Medicine Gift Certificates

Give the gift of health this year. As you get older, you really don’t focus as much on money as you do your health. If you make lots of money and lose your health, what good is it? Give yourself and others the gift of health and fitness. Often, it’s just the knowledge of what to do.

Start earlier than New Year’s this year. Start now.
